Safety is the first priority in our modern martial arts fitness program which incorporates a tremendous cross training blend from the various arts of Taekwondo, Brazilian Jiu jitsu, Krav Maga, Xtreme Martial Arts, Kick boxing, traditional boxing and practical self defence.
Think of our instructors as your personal trainers for one of the most engaging and fun fitness programs available. Each Instructor has been hand selected based on a criteria of displaying high levels of motivation, positive and encouraging attitudes, and their skill at role modeling. We realize that each student possesses different physical abilities. Size and strength vary with each individual. Once you have acquired a strong foundation in the basics, our program will enhance your physical capabilities and maximize your self defense skills. You will understand exactly what it takes, mentally and physically, to defend yourself or your loved ones should the need ever arise.
The teaching curriculum at the WTTU Martial Arts is based on two concepts: “positive mental attitude” and “high goal setting.” We feel so positive about this program that we promise to give you and your family the most professional, well supervised and highest quality classes available in any sport or art.
As committed members of the Certified Instructor Training program (CITP), each instructor is required to continually work on their personal development through hundreds of hours of leadership training, including practical experience, as well as extensive martial arts training. It is not only a requirement to continually maintain and improve their leadership abilities, but also their martial arts and fitness training skills. Every instructor and the leadership team are expected to consistently participate, on a weekly basis, in leadership training and martial arts classes. They are required to perform their skills every two months at promotional testing days, and participate regularly in tournaments to keep their skills on par with anyone of their age and belt rank.
Our martial arts training program has proven successes. We have produced many Canadian champions, and even a few World Top Ten competitors. More importantly we continue to make improvements and refinements every year. Our major focus on personal development, life skill education and training in our children, fitness, and martial arts skills including Taekwondo, Xtreme martial arts, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Krav Maga, makes WTTU Martial Arts a leader in martial arts fitness training and programming in Edmonton and Sherwood Park.
It is our core belief that a martial arts training and fitness program is one of the most personally challenging yet highly rewarding journeys an individual will embark on. Martial Arts excellence is reached over time through consistent and dedicated training. And although it’s an individual challenge, we believe the strength of the family unit will empower, and encourage us to achieve our goals. At WTTU Martial arts we place a large value on the family unit. We teach and encourage our students to strengthen their family ties and likewise believe the support and encouragement from family members is a large part of a student’s success. We foster a family atmosphere within our schools resulting in many close and long lasting friendships among students.
To become proficient at Martial Arts and achieve the ability to execute powerful and swift self defence techniques, a student’s body must become strong. Every class contains elements of fundamental strength, flexibility, and intensive cardiovascular training. There are stringent fitness requirements for those who have achieved their Black Belt status. Black Belt students must continue to maintain and improve their fitness level to progress to higher Black Belt ranks. We believe that a person who becomes strong in body and highly skilled in the art of self defence will also develop a strong and humble character. They learn that their skills and strength can inflict serious harm and should only be used in self defense or to protect their loved ones if threatened with immediate physical harm.
