Basic Program

Our Basic Program teaches the foundation of martial arts training. All new students enrol in this program. In it, students learn introductory techniques such as stances, kicks, blocks and strikes. The student will also learn basic self-defence and embark on a physical conditioning program. This program takes the student through their first three belts: White, Orange, and Yellow.

Black Belt Club

BBC represents the highest level of our “Success through Goal Setting” philosophy. Black Belt Club members are those who have set the goal to become a Black Belt. Our BBC program is for the intermediate student. In this program, one learns “real world” self defence and combat techniques, competition sparring, board breaking, and weapons training. The weapons skills taught are Jahng Bong (long staff), Bahng Mahng Ee (stick), and Ssahng Jeol Bong (nunchukus). You can spot our BBC members by their special patch.

Leadership Program

The Leadership Program at WTTU Martial Arts includes both the Junior Trainee Instructor Program (JTIP; for ages 8 to 15) and the Certified Instructor Training Program (CITP ages 16+). Leadership Program candidates are welcome by an invitation from their Instructor, or once they have reached the rank of First Degree Black Belt. Both streams of training have the common goal of providing a broader outlook for students to draw upon. The JTI Program prepares junior Black Belts for entry into the Certified Instructor Training Program.

Certified Instructor Training Program (CITP)

Our CIT Program is the highest level of training available in the WTTU. In many martial arts styles, the assumption traditionally has been that once students earn their black belts they are ready to teach other students. But the WTTU does not believe that simply being able to do something well qualifies a person to teach it. During the last 30 years, the WTTU and its affiliates have developed an intensive instructor training program to insure that all WTTU instructors are skilled and professional teachers. Some of the personal benefits our dedicated instructors receive from their hard work and effort include:

  • Developing leadership skills
  • Improving their taekwondo abilities
  • Learning instructional techniques
  • Valuable life skills training
  • Sharpening their thinking skills
  • Attending special events
  • Special recognition
  • Custom uniforms

Before becoming certified, WTTU Black Belts spend 2-3 years at various levels, during which time they are required to teach at least 300 hours under the supervision of a senior instructor. They are also required to earn certification in CPR and Youth Protection and to attend instructional certification camps

If you are interested in becoming a certified WTTU instructor, inquire with your instructor. There is a time tested, proven process in place, and he or she is the best place to start. The WTTU relies on its relationships with the school and club owners to help people around the world learn Songahm Taekwondo, and the instructors are equally as important in this vital circle of relationships. Remember to visit with your instructor and let them know you want a future with the WTTU!
